Use the contact page to request a referral.
Mold needs moisture to grow. A stain, a musty smell, or a past leak can be a sign to act. This site helps you find a local provider who can inspect the problem and explain the next step. It does not replace a visit to your home. Only a provider on site can judge the size, location, and source of mold.
Start with the problem you see
Use this checklist before you request a referral. It helps the provider prepare.
- Where is the problem? Note the room and the surface.
- Is there a water source? Note leaks, condensation, or past flooding.
- How large is the area? Estimate it in feet, if you can.
- When did it start? Note the date of a leak or a smell.
- Has it returned before? Note any prior cleaning or repair.
Bring photos if you have them. Do not disturb a large area. Do not scrape material you cannot identify. Keep children and pets away from a damp, damaged area until a provider advises you.
What we can connect you with
We offer referrals for inspection and for non-emergency removal and remediation. Choose the service that fits your need.
- Mold remediation. Full cleanup for a confirmed mold problem, with moisture control.
- Mold inspection and testing. An assessment of visible mold, moisture, and likely sources.
- Attic mold removal. Mold linked to roof leaks, vents, or poor attic airflow.
- Basement mold removal. Mold linked to seepage, humidity, or foundation water.
- Bathroom mold removal. Mold around showers, tubs, sinks, and fans.
- Crawl space mold treatment. Mold linked to ground moisture, vents, and plumbing leaks.
If you have an emergency, such as active flooding, a sewage backup, or a structural failure, contact local emergency services or a local emergency contractor first. This site covers non-emergency work.
How the referral works
Step 1. You describe the problem and your location. Step 2. We match the request to a provider that offers that service in your area. Step 3. The provider contacts you to discuss the visit, scope, and price. Step 4. You decide. You can ask questions. You can decline. You can request another provider.
We do not set the provider price. We do not guarantee work. We do not verify every claim a provider makes about its own business. Ask the provider about licensing rules in your state and city, insurance, scope, drying, and cleanup. Get the scope in writing before work starts.
Keep moisture below the mold threshold
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advises keeping indoor relative humidity below 60 percent, ideally between 30 and 50 percent, if possible. See the EPA mold course. That target is a useful guide. It is not a guarantee. A home can still have a leak even if the air feels dry.
Fix the water first. Clean or remove moldy material only after the source is addressed. Otherwise, the problem often returns. A good provider should explain the moisture source in plain words. If the explanation is vague, ask for more detail.
Where we serve
MoldNear is a nationwide referral site. This batch covers five cities. See the full list on the areas hub.
More cities will be added in later batches. We only publish a city page when we have local facts that are specific to that city.
A calm, factual approach
We do not use alarmist language. Mold in a home is a problem to solve, not a reason to panic. Some mold problems are small and simple. Others need containment, removal, and repair. The right response depends on size, location, and moisture.
Read our about page for a full account of the referral model. Read our privacy page for how we handle information you share. If you are unsure which service fits, start with an inspection referral. An inspection gives you facts about your home, not a sales pitch for a larger job.
Frequently asked questions
See the questions in the front matter above for short answers on the referral model, first steps, and cost. The service pages give more detail on each job type.
Common questions
Is MoldNear a mold removal company?
No. MoldNear is a free referral service. We are not a contractor. When you use our service, we connect you with an independent local provider. That provider is responsible for its own licensing, pricing, and work. We do not perform inspections or remediation ourselves.
How does a referral work?
Tell us what you have noticed, such as a musty smell, a stain, or a past leak. We pass the request to a local provider that offers the service you need. The provider then contacts you to discuss the job, the visit, and the price. You decide whether to hire that provider.
What should I do first if I find mold?
First, look for water. Check for leaks, condensation, and damp areas. Dry wet items quickly if it is safe to do so. Do not run a heating or cooling system if you suspect it is contaminated. Then request an inspection referral so a provider can assess the size and source of the problem.
Does MoldNear charge me for a referral?
No. The referral service is free to use. A provider may pay us for a referral, and that payment is disclosed on every page. The provider sets its own price for inspection or remediation. Ask for a written scope and price before work starts.
